Peace and Freedom: An allegorical tribute, now in a pure gold.

NEW for 2026, the multidimensional Allegory of Peace and Freedom is given the gold treatment, transforming its powerful symbolism into a finely crafted work of art minted in 99.99% pure gold.

Smaller yet more finely detailed than its fine silver counterpart, this gold coin features the side-by-side allegories of Peace and Freedom—the two inseparable ideals that crown the arch of Canada’s National War Memorial—accented with a delicate bough of poppies, laurel and maple leaves. Each line is meticulously engraved, giving this piece a portrait-like intimacy.

NEW! A rare allegorical ode in a pure gold format.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS

  • All-gold allegories. The RCM's fine silver Multidimensional Allegory coin is reimagined as a fully engraved 1 oz. 99.99% pure gold portrait—a new format for 2026! Its design honours the allegorical spirit of Canada’s National War Memorial, bringing peace and freedom together in a refined, symbolic form.
  • A complementary piece. The adaptation from silver cast to gold engraving was more than a material shift: it required thoughtful adjustments to ensure the composition and details were beautifully translated (and even enhanced) to this scale and medium.
  • Symbolic flourishes. Echoing the National War Memorial in spirit, the boughs and stone motif reflect the enduring ideals of peace and freedom for which so many gave their lives.
  • A notable anniversary. This coin tribute to “PAX ET LIBERTAS” (“Peace and Freedom”) arrives a century (1926) after the model submitted by British sculptor Vernon March was selected as the winning design concept for Canada’s National War Memorial.
  • Grow your collection of allegories. Available in this new 99.99% pure gold format, and as a fine silver multidimensional piece, Allegories of Peace and Freedom joins a growing line-up of Canadian allegorical-themed coins.
  • Numismatic rarity. Just 275 coins are available worldwide.
  • Includes serialized certificate. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collector coins.
  • No GST/HST.

PACKAGING

EXTRA CARE AND CRAFTMANSHIP

The process for transforming 3D figures into a complete work of art in a smaller (30 mm), more traditional 2D coin format took extra time and care, but the result is a piece that feels both timeless and intentional.

DID YOU KNOW?

British sculptor Vernon March was among the seven finalists invited in 1925 to submit scale models for an international competition to design Canada’s National War Memorial. His proposal was selected in January 1926, but after his sudden death from pneumonia in 1930, six of his siblings stepped in to complete the bronze statues, including the figures of Peace and Freedom. The commemorative monument was finished in 1938 and unveiled the following year.

Inspired by the allegorical figures atop Canada’s National War Memorial, the reverse design by Royal Canadian Mint 3D artist-engraver Julien R. Duguay features the allegories of Peace and Freedom (“PAX ET LIBERTAS”), with Peace holding up a laurel wreath while Freedom carries a torch that lights the way forward. The engraved stone motif, as well as the bough featuring a Poppy with laurel and maple leaves, deepen the tribute and echo the spirit of the commemorative monument. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
