THE BELOVED KOALA

Admired worldwide for their endearing appearance, koalas are one of Australia’s most iconic and beloved marsupials. Closely tied to their eucalyptus forest habitat, koalas rely on these trees for food and shelter. The coin’s reverse portrays a koala perched in a eucalyptus tree, holding a leafy branch in its mouth surrounded by native foliage. The koala and the coin’s rim are gilded in 22-carat pink gold. Included on the reverse are the inscriptions ‘KOALA’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, as well as the coin’s weight, purity and 2026 year-date. ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990.
