The final portrait finds the wolf at rest.
Popular images of the wolf will show it on the prowl with its piercing gaze focused on the viewer, or else howling at a full moon; in reality, the wolf is a social creature that would much rather keep its distance from humans. This is what makes RCM's third Animal Portraits coin so unique: it’s a close view of a wolf at rest, its eyes passively observing its surroundings and its forepaws casually extended outside the framed centre portion to suggest a relaxed state during this rare, unguarded moment.
CARACTÉRISTIQUES DE LA PIÈCE
- Coin #3 of 3. Step into the wild, or let it come to you: the three-coin Animal Portraits series zooms in on some of Canada’s most magnificent wildlife species, captured in an unguarded moment and in a natural setting.
- Pièce 1 : L'ours polaire
- Coin 2: Elk
- Coin 3: Grey Wolf
- Beyond boundaries. The wolf on your coin’s reverse can’t be contained within the frame, it’s stretching out of the centre portion. This helps blur the boundary between humans and the natural world, and brings you closer to this iconic Canadian species.
- Limited mintage. Crafted in 1 oz. of 99.99% pure silver, your coin has a limited mintage of 7,500. A fun addition to any nature- or Canadiana-themed collection!

THE ART OF ANIMAL PORTRAITURE
Your coin’s reverse features a compelling wildlife portrait rendered in a classic style, complete with engraved details that create a more realistic rendering.
UN PLACAGE EN OR SÉLECTIF
Each coin is selectively plated with yellow gold: all but the animal is plated on the reverse, while the rim and effigy are plated on the obverse.
LE SAVIEZ-VOUS ?
Pack cohesion is strongest in the winter, a time when a wolf’s diet consists mainly of larger prey (such as deer), which requires cooperation among the pack members who hunt and travel together.
The reverse design by artist Trevor Tennant features the grey wolf (Canis lupus) presented in a tranquil, subdued pose. Resting in a wintry Ontario landscape and surrounded by yellow gold plating, the wolf extends its forepaws onto the outer portion where “CANADA” and “2025” are engraved. The obverse features the gold-plated effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
