This coin is the second release in the Treasures of the World series and features Australia and Gold. This series celebrates the abundance of natural resources, most particularly precious metals and stones, found across the globe. As one of the most prized elements gold symbolizes perfection. The obverse features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley and the words "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1 oz 999 Silver 2014 1 Dollar" and a clear locket with .2 g gold granules inside. This clear locket is a unique feature that sets this series apart from others.

The reverse features the same locket surrounded by a scene from the Australian outback comprised of an iconic kangaroo, grass, trees and spinifiex plants and the words "Treasures of the World Gold". In doing so, the design typifies some of the most iconic features of Australia, the wildlife with a kangaroo, the unique scenery with the outback, and fauna that is anything but typical.

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970.
