Founded in 886 AD, The Royal Mint of England is the second oldest mint in the world, operating for over a millennium. With such deeply entrenched roots in the world of bullion and an established standard of minting excellence, it is no wonder that there have been coins that have endured through the centuries. One such coin is the gold double sovereign. First conceived in 1817 by chief engraver Benedetto Pistrucci, the lightweight gold coin was comprised of 0.4708 ounces and had a value of 2 pounds sterling or 40 shillings. This restrike is made in the exact likeness of the original and provides both investors with the benefit of owning a historically transcendent coin in brilliant uncirculated condition!

Illustrated on the reverse side, is the famous image of the Patron Saint of England, St. George is seen upon horseback, as he slays a dragon. The original artist's initials are seen in the bottom right corner.

The obverse modernizes this coin by incorporating the image of Britain's current ruler, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark.
