These copper rounds pay homage to the Kennedy Half Dollar, a 50-cent United States Dollar coin first minted in 1964 as a memorial to the assassinated American president John Fitzgerald Kennedy.

The Kennedy Half Dollar was authorized by the United States congress a month after the president's assassination. The country was in shock and mourning the death of the president, which pushed congress to expedite a law to get rid of the Franklin half a dollar and substitute it with a new design paying homage to Kennedy. The president's portrait was designed by Gilroy Roberts.
