The Mercury Dime Copper Round is inspired by the design of the dime that was in circulation in the United States when real silver was still used in the coinage. A Mercury dime is a traditional dime that was minted by the United States Mint from 1916 to 1945. The iconic Mercury dime got its name due to the Phrygia cap that Lady Liberty is depicted wearing which originally was meant to represent freedom, however many at the time said it gave Lady Liberty the likeness of the Roman god Mercury. This was met with much controversy at the time and thus it received the name "mercury dime" which is still used to describe it today.
