Seventh in line after the snake, the horse is said to bestow independence, charisma, and a sense of adventure on those born under its influence in 2026, 2014, 2002, 1990 and every 12th preceding year. Being passionate and spirited, they are gifted with natural charm and an ability to inspire others.
The reverse of each coin portrays a majestic mare alongside her young foal, both depicted with elegant manes in a striking galloping stance. The background includes towering mountains and the lush serenity of grasslands. The delicately frosted design on the 1oz silver proof coin appears on an immaculately polished table. The 1oz silver coloured coin depicts the horses in colour, while the 1oz gilded coin highlights the horses in 24-carat gold. Also included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘Horse’, the inscription ‘HORSE 2026’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, the set is housed in a classic display case with a clear lid, and an illustrated shipper featuring a horse. When arrayed with other shippers from the series, the resulting diorama depicts the legend of The Great Race, in which 12 animals successfully compete for a position in the lunar zodiac.
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970. Under an agreement with the Commonwealth Treasury, they were empowered to mint and market gold, silver, and platinum as Australian legal tender to investors and collectors worldwide. Today, they are amongst the elite world mints whose pure gold, silver, and platinum items are trusted without question. Items such as the Australian Nugget, Silver Coin Series (Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Koala, and Platypus to name a few), as well as the Australian Lunar Gold and Silver Coin Series are extensively sought after by bullion investors worldwide.
